The Opportunity
The Senior SCADA Developer is responsible for the design, development, delivery and continuous improvement of SCADA platforms for complex control system solutions across mission-critical projects. In this role, you will define SCADA architecture standards, system design frameworks, and integration strategies while supporting project teams in the design, implementation, and commissioning of Ignition-based control systems.
This position plays a critical role in scaling Thermo’s controls delivery capability across mission-critical infrastructure projects, including hyperscale data centres, energy systems, and advanced industrial environments. You will will guide engineering teams, establish platform standards, and ensure scalable, secure, and high-performance SCADA solutions across multiple projects.
This role is ideal for professionals who combine strong technical architecture capabilities with hands-on experience in industrial automation and SCADA system delivery.
What You’ll Do
Core Responsibilities:
- Review and maintain Ignition platform architecture standards across Thermo projects.
- Update reference architectures for scalable SCADA deployments including redundancy and distributed gateways.
- Support the design of SCADA systems integrating PLC platforms, BMS, EPMS, and industrial networks.
- Develop reusable libraries, templates, and engineering standards to improve project efficiency.
- Support system integration, SCADA configuration, commissioning, and validation activities across projects.
- Produce and review control system architecture, software, and technical documentation
- Execute engineering tasks across multiple projects, ensuring delivery on time and within scope
- Support system integration, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance testing (SAT)
- Identify and resolve technical issues across software, hardware, and system interfaces
- Support value engineering efforts to optimise cost and performance of solutions
- Contribute to the development and improvement of engineering standards, tools, and processes
- Support Business Development teams with technical input for proposals and bids as required
Collaboration & Communication:
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align scope, schedule, and deliverables.
- Communicate clearly and proactively with internal teams, customers, and partners.
- Act as a technical interface between Engineering, Integration, and Operations teams.
- Support project leadership in identifying risks, resolving issues, and maintaining delivery alignment.
- Identify and escalate technical risks, constraints, or scope changes early.
Quality, Safety & Process:
- Establish SCADA engineering standards, documentation frameworks, and best practices.??????
- Ensure system designs align with cybersecurity standards and industrial networking best practices.
- Support quality processes including architecture reviews, code reviews, and system validation.
- Drive continuous improvement of SCADA engineering workflows and deployment methodologies.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically, 5+ years of experience in industrial automation or SCADA engineering environments.
- Extensive hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions using the Inductive Automation Ignition platform or industry-relevant equivalent
- Experience delivering SCADA systems within mission-critical or industrial infrastructure environments preferred.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Expertise in Ignition Gateway architecture, system design, and deployment.
- Experience developing SCADA visualisation using Ignition Vision or Perspective.
- Good understanding of tag architecture, alarm management, and historian integration.
- Experience integrating PLC systems such as Rockwell, Siemens, or Schneider platforms.
- Knowledge of OPC UA architecture and industrial networking protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, BACnet, and MQTT.
- Experience designing high-availability and distributed SCADA architectures.
- Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity practices and secure network architecture.
- Strong systems thinking and technical architecture capabilities.
- Strong communication skills when working with technical teams and client stakeholders.
