Job Summary:
Thermo Systems is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Safety Specialist to join our team and lead efforts in maintaining a safe, compliant, and health-conscious work environment. The Ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction or industrial safety, a passion for protecting people, and the ability to implement and monitor effective safety programs. Hybrid with travel up to 50%.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in construction or industrial settings. 5+ years in an ESH role preferred.
- Certifications such as CSP, CHST, STSC, OSHA 30-Hour, NFPA strongly preferred.
- Candidate will be required to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED Certification and OSHA 30-Hour within first year.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Facilitate employee engagement by leading toolbox talks, coaching behavioral based safety (BBS) job observations, and educational safety trainings and workshops that emphasize personal accountability and positive reinforcement.
- Conduct safety inspections, observations, and conversations on active job sites, and use this data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintains proficiency in existing company safety policies and site-specific safety programs and steers the company in the use of those policies/programs. Identifies new policies and recommends the use of those policies which will benefit the company and our customers.
- Ensures all safety documentation, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with company’s Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensures compliance with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, client, GC, and Thermo System’s regulations and requirements.
- Champion continuous improvement by gathering lessons learned, sharing best practices, and closing the loop.
- Maintain accurate safety records, including injury logs, training documentation, and inspection reports.
- Partner with supervisors, project managers, and field teams to integrate safety leadership behaviors into daily operations, planning, and performance reviews.
- Serve as the point of contact for regulatory agencies and emergency response coordination.
- Ability to engage field staff, supervisors, and executives in two-way dialogue about safety related matters and behaviors.
- Lead Safety meetings, take meeting minutes and distribute to relevant personnel.
- Conducts safety audits, reports audit findings, and follows up with corrective actions.
- Knowledge of Health Requirements, rules and regulations, and ability to monitor compliance.
- Maintain relevant Safety logs and documentation.
- Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) with a behavioral lens to uncover systematic and cultural drivers, not just procedural failures.
- Develop and facilitate interactive safety training sessions that encourage participation and self-reflection.
- Observes and encourages safe work practices, identifies conditional and behavioral-based risks, and provides constructive coaching.
- Ability to build trust and rapport, listen actively, and approach safety conversations with empathy and respect to achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance.
- Maintain positive and proactive relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies.
- Performs safety inspections both in the office and out on job sites.
- Reviews and updates company safety policies, programs. and procedures annually or when changes occur.
- Run corporate toolbox talks and develop new toolbox talks.
- Audit PPE requirements for general tasks performed by employees (regulations per county/project).

- Drive consensus and buy-in among team members with regards to health, safety and the environment.
- Works effectively with operations, HR, and project leadership to embed BBS principles throughout the organization.
- Understand the financial or business impacts with regards to the environmental, health and safety initiatives.
- Identify the relevant regulations depending on state specific requirements.
- Ensure compliance with a client’s safety regulations (at a minimum).
- Presents information to clients and other team members with regards to regulations, policies, procedures, plus onboarding of employees.
- Experience supporting cultural shifts, encouraging adoption of new practices, and sustaining behavioral change over time.
- Show respect and empathy towards individuals in a multinational project/team.
- Integrate and coach best practices/innovations and roll out to the wider team.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Provide on-site safety management coverage for projects as directed.
