Control Systems Engineer - Mission Critical Control Systems

Job Summary:

As an Entry-Level Control System Engineer, you will join our on-site project team inside a hyperscale data center, gaining hands-on experience with Building Management System (BMS) hardware and software—PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and networked controls. Under the guidance of senior engineers and project leads, you’ll contribute to design reviews, panel checkout, I/O testing, and system commissioning while learning industry best practices. This is a full-time role based in Montgomery, AL; local candidates or those willing to relocate are welcome.

Education & Experience:

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Software Engineering—or similar technical degree
  • 0-2 years of related experience (internships and co-ops count)
  • Familiarity with basic electrical or automation concepts is a plus

Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Assist with hardware assembly reviews, loop checks, and point-to-point wiring verification
  • Help configure PLC/HMI tags, alarming, and graphic displays under senior direction
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and on-site commissioning activities
  • Read and mark-up P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and network drawings
  • Follow Thermo Systems’ Quality Management System (QMS) and safety procedures
  • Proofread and update test scripts, red-line drawings, and turnover packages

Customer Service:

  • Communicate professionally with client representatives and trade partners on site
  • Adhere to data-center security and safety protocols at all times
  • Follow up on action items promptly and document resolutions clearly

Project Execution:

  • Deliver assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and within budget
  • Flag scope gaps or issues to the project lead early and propose solutions
  • Provide concise progress updates during daily stand-ups and weekly syncs

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong desire to learn industrial automation and data-center operations
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft?365; ability to pick up engineering software quickly
  • Hands-on aptitude with multimeters, hand tools, and basic panel work
  • Solid problem-solving habits and willingness to ask clarifying questions
  • Team-first mindset—offers help readily and respects diverse perspectives
  • Commitment to a safety-first culture and proper use of PPE

Travel & On-Call:

  • Travel: <10%; primarily local errands or occasional vendor FATs
  • On-Call: None

Work Authorization/Other Requirements:

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the country where the position is located is required.
  • Maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Fit for Duty at all times
