Project Executive
Location: Remote in the U.S.
Employment Status: Full Time | Direct Hire
Compensation: $170,000 - $180,000 per year + Annual Bonus
Travel: This role requires heavy travel and requires a close proximity to major airports.

The Opportunity
The Project Executive plays a critical leadership role overseeing a portfolio of control systems projects with significant focus on Mission Critical and data center environments. The Project Executive position serves as the primary risk manager for assigned projects and ensures delivery aligns with Thermo Systems’ standards for customer experience, employee development, and financial performance.
This role is remote-based with heavy travel required, primarily starting with Montgomery, Alabama. The Project Executive partners closely with Engineering, Business Development, Finance, and Executive Leadership to drive strategic execution, forecasting, and resource planning.
What You’ll Do
Core Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Project Managers across a diverse controls project portfolio.
- Serve as Risk Manager for assigned projects, ensuring proactive identification and mitigation of cost, schedule, and scope risks.
- Review and approve monthly Cost-to-Complete reports, forecasts, and financial projections prior to submission to Finance.
- Ensure projects are delivered at or above sold gross profit margins.
- Provide strategic guidance during project buyout, subcontractor selection, and major equipment procurement.
- Support Business Development with project staffing forecasts and resource planning.
- Participate in change order review and contract administration.
- Maintain strong relationships with owners, general contractors, trade partners, and design firms.
- Champion safety, quality, and adherence to QMS procedures across all projects.
People Leadership
- Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise assigned Project Managers.
- Conduct one-on-ones and performance reviews; support professional development.
- Review and approve time records for direct reports.
- Identify staffing gaps and participate in recruiting efforts, providing final recommendations for hire.
- Oversee team budget for training and team-building initiatives.
- Promote a collaborative, accountable, and performance-driven team culture.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with Engineering Managers and Business Development to forecast staffing and upcoming project needs.
- Act as first-level escalation support for Project Managers.
- Communicate proactively and professionally with customers and internal teams.
- Negotiate effectively in high-pressure situations while preserving long-term relationships.
Quality, Safety & Process
- Practice and uphold procedures outlined in Thermo Systems’ Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensure quality requirements and contractual obligations are consistently met.
- Promote a strong safety culture in both office and field environments.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the Project Management function.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of total industry experience, including 10+ years in project management.
- Minimum 5+ years leading or operating at a senior project management level.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of control systems design and integration.
- Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical system design and their impact on process and safety.
- Experience with contracting practices, project accounting, and financial forecasting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operating systems.
- Strong negotiation skills; able to be diplomatic yet decisive.
- Ability to manage competing priorities with urgency and accountability.
- Proven ability to build trust and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Mission Critical or large-scale industrial automation projects.
- Executive-level project reporting experience.
