  • Financial Strength – operating with discipline and long-term focus

We believe strong teams, trusted partnerships, and technical excellence drive sustainable success.

The Opportunity

The Control Systems Project Engineer II leads technical execution of automation and control system projects, including high-visibility mission-critical and data center environments. In this role, you will design, maintain, upgrade, and integrate industrial OT computer and network systems while ensuring project deliverables meet Thermo Systems’ technical and quality standards.

Working closely with project managers, engineers and startup teams, you will guide OT system integration from design through commissioning and turnover. This role heavily contributes to evolving modern OT environments, including integration with industrial networks, data systems, and customer IT infrastructure.

While this role does not include formal people management responsibilities, it plays a key role in mentoring junior engineers and maintaining technical excellence across project deliverables.

This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy hands-on technical leadership, complex networking challenges, and contributing to increasingly connected, data-driven industrial systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead design, development, and integration of computer and network based OT systems for automation projects.
  • Execute OT system start-up, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and live OT system upgrades.
  • Specify computer system and network system hardware that align with project requirements.
  • Support and troubleshoot project teams during design, implementation and warranty phases of projects.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, commissioning teams, and subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Communicate clearly with customers and stakeholders during design reviews, testing phases, and commissioning activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers supporting project work.
  • Identify project risks early and collaborate with teams to develop effective technical solutions.

Quality, Safety & Process

  • Ensure deliverables meet Thermo Systems’ Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
  • Follow established engineering processes and documentation practices throughout project execution.
  • Support cybersecurity, industrial networking, and IT/OT integration requirements.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail in system design, testing, and commissioning activities.

Modern Systems & Integration

  • Support integration of OT systems with data platforms, historians, and visualization tools.
  • Contribute to implementation of industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, MQTT).
  • Assist with API-based integrations and data exchange between systems where applicable.
  • Participate in improving system connectivity, performance, and visibility across projects.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Thermo Systems’ approach to modern OT environments.

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Typically 5–7+ years of experience in controls engineering, industrial automation, or IT/OT system environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting and designing industrial networks, focusing on OSI Layers 1-3 (cabling, VLANs, switching, routing, etc).

Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate-level certification in industry-standard networking equipment (CCNA, JNCIA or equivalent).
  • Experience developing SCADA/HMI systems using FactoryTalk, Ignition, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking and modern IT/OT integration practices.
  • Experience with data integration concepts, system connectivity, or scripting (Python, PowerShell, or similar) is a plus.
  • Experience supporting FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities for automation systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex automation environments.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly with engineers, project managers, and customers.
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and accountability.

What You’ll Get

  • Competitive compensation with annual bonus opportunity
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with low-cost options
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Tuition reimbursement and professional credential support
  • In-house and external technical training opportunities
  • Exposure to complex, high-impact automation projects
  • A collaborative culture built on integrity, accountability, and teamwork
