The Opportunity
The Ignition Specialist is responsible for the design, development, delivery, and continuous improvement of complex control system solutions across mission-critical projects. This role plays a key part in executing high-quality engineering deliverables while supporting project teams through design, integration, and commissioning phases.
Operating across multiple projects, this individual owns key technical deliverables, contributes to system architecture decisions, and supports less experienced engineers to ensure consistency and quality. This role is ideal for a technically strong controls engineer looking to take on greater ownership, mentor others, and contribute to engineering standards and delivery improvements.
What You’ll Do
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or control system integration
- Experience supporting complex industrial, life sciences, or mission-critical projects
Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and enhance PLC, SCADA, BMS, and EPMS systems for mission-critical projects
- Produce and review control system architecture, software designs, and technical documentation
- Execute engineering tasks across multiple projects, ensuring delivery within scope and schedule
- Support system integration, FAT, and SAT activities
- Assist with commissioning including validation, troubleshooting, and optimization
- Interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control narratives to ensure accurate implementation
- Identify and resolve technical issues across software, hardware, and system interfaces
- Support value engineering efforts to optimize cost and performance
- Contribute to development and improvement of engineering standards, tools, and processes
- Provide technical support to business development efforts as needed
Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align scope, schedule, and deliverables
- Communicate clearly and proactively with internal teams, customers, and partners
- Serve as a technical interface between Engineering, Integration, and Operations
- Support project leadership in identifying risks and resolving issues
- Identify and escalate technical risks, constraints, and scope changes early
Quality, Safety & Process
- Adhere to company policies, QMS requirements, and safety standards
- Support and enhance Quality Management System (QMS) processes
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet standards for accuracy and completeness
- Promote structured engineering and documentation practices
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and support continuous improvement initiatives
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA, BMS, and EPMS systems (Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, Ignition, etc.)
- Experience in control system design, software development, and system integration
- Ability to independently execute complex engineering tasks
- Strong understanding of process systems, instrumentation, control panels, and industrial networks
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control narratives
- Experience supporting commissioning, FAT, and SAT activities
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and decision-making capability
- Commitment to quality, safety, and accountability
Work Authorization / Other Requirements
- Proof of eligibility to work in the country where the position is located is required
- Maintain a valid driver’s license
