Who We Are

Thermo Systems is a full-service control systems integration partner delivering premier class automation solutions across the Energy, Life Sciences, and Mission Critical markets.

Guided by The Thermo Way, we are unified, dynamic, and committed to delivering excellence. Our culture is grounded in three core principles:

  • Employee Success - investing in our people and their growth
  • Customer Success - delivering reliable, high-quality solutions
  • Financial Strength - operating with discipline and long-term focus

We believe strong teams, trusted partnerships, and technical excellence drive sustainable success.

The Opportunity

Thermo Systems is seeking a Business Process Mapping Consultant for a focused 6-month contract assignment embedded with the PMO. This role will support Thermo's One Way of Working initiative by documenting how key project delivery processes operate today across functions, teams, and customer programs.

The assignment is focused on current-state process mapping. The consultant will work with PMO, Operations, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Sales, S&OP, IT, and project teams to understand how work flows today, where handoffs occur, what inputs and outputs are used, and where gaps, inconsistencies, or pain points exist.

The primary outcome is practical current-state process documentation that can support future operating model improvement, process standardization, and improved execution discipline.

What You'll Do

Core Responsibilities:

  • Map selected current-state project delivery workflows, including opportunity-to-project handoff, contract finalization, project initiation, engineering execution, procurement coordination, customer change orders, forecasting inputs, field execution coordination, commissioning, and closeout handoffs.
  • Facilitate interviews and working sessions with cross-functional stakeholders to understand how work is actually performed today.
  • Document workflows using clear process maps, swimlanes, handoff points, decision points, roles, inputs, outputs, systems used, and common variations.
  • Identify and document process pain points, bottlenecks, unclear ownership, duplicate work, manual workarounds, inconsistent practices, and key handoff risks.
  • Build a practical current-state process library that PMO and operating leaders can use as a foundation for future-state process design.
  • Summarize findings, themes, and prioritized improvement opportunities for leadership review.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Partner closely with the PMO Leader and existing PMO owners for process, Stage Gates, training, reporting, artifacts, and tools.
  • Work with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Sales, S&OP, IT, and project teams to capture cross-functional workflows accurately.
  • Facilitate structured working sessions that are efficient, practical, and respectful of business leaders' and project teams' time.
  • Translate informal or inconsistent workflows into clear, usable documentation.
  • Communicate mapping progress, key gaps, handoff issues, and emerging themes clearly to PMO and operating leaders.

Key Deliverables:

  • Current-state process maps for priority project delivery workflows.
  • Cross-functional swimlane diagrams showing handoffs, owners, decision points, and dependencies.
  • Documentation of key process inputs, outputs, tools, reports, and operating routines.
  • Summary of recurring pain points, bottlenecks, ownership gaps, and inconsistencies.
  • Prioritized list of process improvement opportunities for future PMO and operating leadership action.
  • Organized process documentation repository that Thermo can maintain after the assignment ends.

What We're Looking For

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in business process mapping, process documentation, PMO support, operations, project delivery, business analysis, or transformation-related work.
  • Experience documenting current-state workflows across cross-functional teams in a project-based, engineering, construction, industrial, automation, technical services, or similar environment.
  • Experience facilitating stakeholder interviews and workshops with functional leaders, project managers, and process participants.
  • Experience creating clear process maps, swimlanes, current-state documentation, and process assessment summaries.
  • Prior consulting, business analyst, PMO, Lean, Six Sigma, or operating model experience is a plus.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong process mapping, workflow analysis, documentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to quickly understand complex, cross-functional project delivery workflows.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to ask good questions, listen carefully, and translate how work happens into clear documentation.
  • Ability to identify practical process issues without overcomplicating the work or jumping prematurely to solutions.
  • Strong organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working independently while staying aligned with PMO leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Practical familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, Lucidchart, Miro, Smartsheet, or similar process documentation tools.
  • Bias toward practical, usable documentation over theoretical process design.

Engagement Outcome

The successful outcome of this assignment is a clear, practical, and usable view of Thermo's current-state project delivery workflows. This work will help Thermo understand how work flows across the business today and create the foundation for future process standardization, operating model improvement, and One Way of Working maturity.
